Three Dog Night is as good as ever
I was a little skeptical when my wife asked me to get tickets for a Mana concert. After all, the group started 50 years ago and now has only one of the three original lead singers. Would Danny Hutton's voice still hold up, and who would fill the vocal roles of Cory Wells and Chuck Negron? The group was as good as ever. David Morgan and Paul Kingery re-created the sound of the original vocals, and Hutton sounds as if he hasn't aged a bit. Backed by longtime guitarist Michael Alllsup, drummer Paul Bautz (who took a turn on vocals on "Mama Told Me Not To Come'') and keyboardist Eddie Reasoner, the group performed nothing but its hits from the 1960s and 1970s. I needn't have worried. To us, it was like stepping back in time. The show was a bit short -- about 80 minutes -- but the audience didn't care.
